Writing 122

What defines a colleges campus culture? Use 1-2 of our readings this week to analyze what (or who) defines a colleges campus culture. Our readings give us a variety of meanings on who and what contributes to defining a campus culture: institutional initiatives, intellectual life, campus facilities, inclusion, student social life, and athletics. What do you think?

Conclude your post with a specific, open-ended question for the group that applies your discussion of campus culture generally to UOs campus culture specifically. You want your question to encourage conversation about the campus culture at UO.

Be sure to quote from one of the readings! Do introduce the writer and give some explanation/interpretation after the quote to situate it in your discussion.

Exploring pragmatic issues in the evaluation process

The Central Mothers Program is a parenting program for young, unmarried mothers.  The program seeks to provide young, unmarried mothers with the necessary knowledge to effectively and successfully parent (interact, communicate, discipline) their children.  The program focuses on teaching the young women about child development, appropriate parenting styles and parenting skills, and assists the women with access to community resources and support.  Currently, there are 300 women participating in the program between the ages of 18 24. The women participate in weekly group sessions with a licensed counselor.  Each group consists of 15 women. During the group sessions, the women work on building their knowledge of parenting styles, child development, and developing appropriate parenting skills, by apply the information to various real life scenarios. The women also discuss issues like budgeting, housekeeping, and childcare. Several different groups meet during the week

Artifacts of Your Life

This photo challenge requires you to reflect on the various things in your life, as if they are artifacts to be found by future archaeologists. Take some time to look around at your belongings and think about what items could be preserved in the archaeological record. What items are less likely to decompose over time? Which items could withstand various natural forces over time, such as rain, heat, wind, and snow?

Pick between two and five items that you think could persist over time and think about what those items might reveal about you and your life. Make these items the object of your photo. Next, try to think about the objects as if you are an archaeologist from the future who has just uncovered the objects in an excavation. In your 100-200 word caption, describe the items from the perspective of the archaeologist. Keep in mind that this researcher does not know anything about you other than what artifacts you left behind. What do your things say about you?

International Relations

Before you begin this assignment, please review the course materials from the first three weeks of class with a special focus on the three mainstream theoretical perspectives: realism, liberalism and constructivism. Please pay particular attention to the definition of each and avoid pairing them with domestic perceptions of conservatives, liberals, etc. I also recommend reviewing the week 2 forum's Wrap up.  While you may select an outside source to present a world event, it is important to study and incorporate the week 2 readings to explain IR theories. Outside sources on IR theories can be quite confusing for students new to International Relations.

For this assignment, you will choose a world event. You can choose one of the ones listed below or come up with your own. I suggest that you message me if you choose your own event.  Explain which states are involved, if there are any non-state actors, (for non-state actors' definitions, see Week One Lessons), internat
