For the final research project, students have the option of completing a final research project or a final paper. If you choose to write the final paper, undergraduates will compose a 2500/3000 words research paper that further explores one of the course themes or a new topic that is chosen with consultation with the professor. The project contains a deeper reflection on how religion influences the social construction of race and national identity. It can take on a variety of forms, e.g, paper, presentation, film, interview. However, there MUST be a written research component to the project that is at least 2500/3500 words for the graduate students.

Choose a narrative, feature-length film:

Requirements: 6-7 pages, double-spaced, 12pt Times font, 1 margins, page numbers, citations and a works cited page using a proper and consistent style, and a title. You must directly engage with at least two readings from our course syllabus and most of the elements of your archive.

The final paper should expand upon the work started in your midterm paper, revising and reworking the ideas and adding the elements proposed in the second research summary. You should include some of the writing from your midterm paper, but it must be revised and fully integrated into the new paper. You can use as much or as little of the writing from your midterm as you need. This is not a simple revision of the previous paper; it will be evaluated on its own merits. The criteria for grading will be roughly the same as the midterm paper. We will be looking for:

Guidelines:
Essays should be around 4 pages in length, 1.5 spaced. Each paper should include at least: one introductory paragraph (a thesis statement where you answer the question!), four paragraphs that discuss four artworks at length, and a conclusion. Minimum: 6 paragraphs min.
All essays must demonstrate knowledge of at least two (02) of the readings and at least four (04) artworks in the study guide.

This essay also requires effective engagement with 2 external scholarly sources: (ie. critical books from University presses, scholarly articles, or scholarly historical sources, which may include those listed on the course outline). Please use correct MLA form.
An essay on this topic should go well beyond just explaining names, and into the significance of naming in identity formation, construction of culture, the philosophy of the novel, or some other larger implication.
